Marc H. Brown is my homeboy: Wendy Carlos is my Muse.
This live coding / improvisation attempts to return algorithmic sound-art to some of its earliest roots: illustrating (or auralizing) classical computer science algorithms. Using an experimental live version of an environment for the new educational object-oriented programming language Grace, we will find the classic in-place sorting algorithms (bubble sort, insertion sort, selection sort, quick sort), translate them into Grace, and render them into algorave.
James Noble
James Noble is half of Selective Yellow, an experimental improvising electronic music duo based in Wellington, New Zealand, drawing on New Zealand’s heritage of experimental music practice. Selective Yellow performances employ a number of different synthesizers or sound generators, ranging from digital toys (Kaosscilators, Buddhamachines, littleBits) to semi-modular analogue and MIDI digital synthesizers, played with a variety of controllers (wind controllers, monome grids, knob boxes etc).
James Noble’s presence at the festival is supported in part by the Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund and James Cook Fellowship, and by Victoria University of Wellington.
