‘On a Theme of Hermes’ is a GPS-triggered contemporary music/contemporary poetry-fusion accessed through a FREE app on your smartphone. The work is composed INTO an external location of your choice. Download the SATSYMPH-HERMES app from the Appstore or Google Play. Then go to any suitable outdoor location, open the app and follow the on-screen instructions. This creates a ‘GPS-triggered virtual auditorium’ of, say 30x30m. Put your headphones on, stick your phone in your pocket – and wander! The volume is controlled by your normal phone controls. TAKE CARE! Please watch where you’re going to avoid accidents!
Info flyers available from the NMF Information Desk for the duration of the festival.
SATSYMPH is Crewkerne-based contemporary composer, Marc Yeats, Bristol-based poet, writer and pervasive media producer, Ralph Hoyte, and coder and audio engineer, Phill Phelps. The three of us set up SATSYMPH in 2009. We were nominated for the PRS Foundation New Music Award in 2010 and were funded by ACE, the PRS for Music Foundation and DIVA Contemporary to create ‘On a Theme of Hermes’ (Poole with Poole Borough Council; Bristol with MShed, Arnolfini & Elektrostatik Festival 2012; Wroclaw/Poland with Wroclaw European City of Culture 2016).
