Judy Dunaway

Judy Dunaway will present a live-streamed electronic solo improvisation that manipulates and brings attention to audio data compression artifacts. The initial output will come from MaxMSP and be routed through multiple live streams, incorporating a remote live Skype feed by vocalist Jill Burton, ultimately terminating in a broadcast streamed live to the venue via UStream.

Judy Dunaway is primarily known for her compositions, improvisations, electronic works, multimedia works and sound installations for latex balloons. She has presented these works throughout North America and Europe at many major venues and festivals, and has received grants from the Aaron Copland Fund, Harvestworks, American Composers Forum and others. CDs of this work have been released on the CRI and Innova labels. Since 2005 Dunaway has been producing internet-based sound art, including the internet community audio-art project “Sex Workers Internet Radio Lounge (SWIRL)” (2006-2010), “The Phone Improv Show,” (August 2010) a month-long live streamed program featuring free improvisations called in via phone, and her duo “DVNT and Dolly” (with Doug van Nort) who have presented telematic improvisations at DreamFestival 2011, NMF 2012 and on free103point9. Her telematic solo composition “What You Cannot Hear” was released in the November 2012 issue of Leonardo Music Journal.
